Self Portrait: "The Wine Cellar II" - Oil on stretched canvas - A LIFE SIZE PORTRAIT
Each time I pick up the brush to create a painting I learn something new, and that’s refreshing. The creative process itself is what truly fascinates me. When
exploring and composing an artwork I strive to capture something unique and compelling. With each stroke of the brush a multitude of illusions are revealed through the application of color and
texture, amidst the interplay of light, shade, shadow, reflection and transparency. I think of painting as being three dimensional, similar to a sculpture, where the viewer can explore the depth
of the artwork.
I consider myself a “dark” painter, using deeper, richer colors. My favorite medium is oil on stretched canvas or a cradled panel. I especially love creating artwork
that encompasses people doing the things they most enjoy. When I am able to capture an emotion or mystique that holds and moves the viewer, or create an interaction where the viewer can
experience the moment, I feel a great sense of accomplishment. Painting is relaxing, peaceful, and above all, it is my passion.
